Combining segments simplifies the way you create segments in ActivatePro by allowing you to reuse existing conditions and build on top of them. You can include segments with broader characteristics as a default audience and use it as a baseline, e.g. "All Users with a valid Newsletter Subscription" combined with "Users that ordered in the last 10 days" or similar, but you can also exclude users from specific segements from the audience you are building.
You can find in this article examples for:
If used properly, combining multiple segments can help create complex User Segments that are still easy to comprehend and use.
There are two ways to combine segments: with AND or OR connection.
AND: users need to be in all of the segments
OR: users need to be in at least one of the segments
Including Segments
Examples:
- In this example there are two segments combined, but no user is part of BOTH segments:
- In this example we see the same segments included, but with an OR connection, therefore a user can be in either (or both) of the combined segments, which is why in this case the result is not 0:
Excluding Segments
Examples:
- In this example there is a segment included with 146 users and the users of another segment with 8 users should be excluded from the result. 5 users from the excluding segment are in the first one, therefore they are excluded in the segment, so the result is 141:
- In this example multiple segments are excluded from the result, combined with an OR connection, so the user only have to be in one of them to be excluded. 5 users from one excluded segment and 1 user from the other excluded segment are also in the included segment, so 6 are excluded in total :
