Spotler ActivatePro helps you engage users automatically based on their behaviour. By combining audiences, triggers and communication channels, you can create Stories that respond to user actions in real time.
In this guide, you'll create your first Story using a Welcome Story as an example. Along the way, you'll define your audience, configure the Story, and activate it so eligible users can receive their first message. The same approach applies to other use cases, such as abandoned cart reminders or content engagement journeys.
Quick overview
| 🕒 Time | 30–45 minutes |
| 🎯 Level | Beginner |
| 🧰 Needed | Access to your ActivatePro account, with the required user and event data already available, and at least one channel integration configured |
Before you start
Make sure your account is set up with the following:
- User data and identifiers (for example, an email address or user ID)
- An event that can trigger your Story (for example, a registration or subscription event)
- At least one connected communication channel, such as your email platform
- Web tracking, if your use case depends on website behaviour (for example, abandoned cart)
- A product feed, if your use case depends on product data (for example, abandoned cart)
Why your data won't show up automatically
ActivatePro doesn't import or store this data itself. User and event data are connected separately, usually by your organization's IT team, via API or import. If a step below doesn't work as expected, this is often the reason why.
Step 1. Define your audience
Every Story needs a segment: the group of users allowed to enter it.
- Go to Users > User Segments.
- Create a new segment or review an existing one.
- For a Welcome Story, this is typically all newly registered users. Refine it further if needed, for example by language or brand.

Step 2. Build your first Story
Now you're ready to create the journey that users will follow.
- Go to Stories and select Create new Story.
- Give your Story a clear name, and set the time span, capping and exclusions.
- On the Story Canvas:
- Choose how the Story starts, for example a registration event.
- Connect the audience you created in Step 1.
- Add your first message block.
- Optionally, add a Wait or Condition block for a follow-up step, such as a reminder after a few days.
- Click Save Changes in the bottom left corner.
Story or campaign?
Use a Story rather than a campaign whenever your use case needs more than one message, such as a follow-up based on what the user does next.

- What integrations are supported in stories?
Step 3. Activate your Story
Once you've finished building your Story, it's time to make it live.
- Open the Story Summary.
- Verify that the correct audience, Story Start and message flow are configured.
- Click Activate.
Your Story is now live. 🎉 As soon as the first eligible user meets the entry conditions, ActivatePro automatically starts the journey and sends the first message through your connected channel. There's nothing more to do to trigger it.
What's next?
You've successfully created and activated your first Story. From here, you can:
- Monitor Story performance
- Refine your audience segments
- Add more logic and branches to your Story
- Build new behavioural journeys, such as abandoned cart or content engagement Stories
